TGC Acquires „The Dark Eye“ License

TGC – The Games Company starts off into the first day of this year´s Games Convention with fantastic news for all RPG fans. The Berlin-based publisher was able to acquire the most successful German RPG license for the development of a high-end game. The license has been granted by Chromatix GmbH, the holder of rights of the globally successful “TDE” brand.
“TDE – The Dark Eye” has enthralled RPG fans all over the world (in German: “DSA – Das Schwarze Auge”) for the last 24 years. At the beginning “TDE” was only available as a traditional pen & paper role-playing game, but within the last 16 years the license has also been used for four PC games. TGC´s latest “TDE” project offers the most intensive role-playing experience so far in the idyllic but dangerous fantasy world Aventuria.

TGC´s in-house development unit is responsible for the realization of the ambitious “TDE” adaptation. In Berlin the developers work at an action-oriented role-playing game that is to impose new standards within the genre with its enormous depth and an epic, movie-like story. The detailed background story sends the player on a thrilling adventurous journey through the vast “TDE” world Aventuria. The charismatic main character is controlled from a freely zoomable and pivotable isometric perspective. The authentic fights are based on the current edition of the “TDE” rulebook.

“I am glad that we have got the coveted license”, says Carsten Strehse, CEO at TGC. “It emphasizes TGC´s high ambitions to be able to use such an attractive license for our lavish game development. This enables us to provide players not only with a very good but with an extraordinary RPG. We strive to set new standards in story-telling, graphics and game worlds with our “TDE” project.”

“An action-oriented role-playing game offers fascinating new possibilities to carry the player off to the varied world of Aventuria”, says Dr. Stefan Blanck, managing director at Chromatix. “I am convinced that gripping gameplay combined with an emotional story will offer an exciting experience to role-players.”

Furthermore, TGC will massively extend its staff until the end of the year. For these purposes TGC will set up a Board of Directors and restructure its departments according to the Anglo-American system.

In a first step TGC has promoted its marketing manager Christian Sauerteig to marketing director.
TGC becomes independent again

The publisher TGC – The Games Company and 10TACLE STUDIOS AG have decided not to realize the intended takeover. From now on TGC – The Games Company again acts as an autonomous and independent developer and marketer of computer and video games.

In December 2007 it was announced that TGC – The Games Company would be taken over by 10TACLE STUDIOS AG in order to expand the proprietary development capacities in the sectors of international multi-platform titles, casual gaming and licensed titles for the mass market. Due to the restructuring and new focussing of business activities at 10TACLE STUDIOS AG the agreed increase in capital has not been realized yet. Instead the parties have decided on reversing the transaction. The TGC management, led by Markus Malti and Carsten Strehse, has opted for returning to autonomy and will take over the shares of the company.

“With the reverse transaction we have taken a step in the interests of all parties involved. TGC can continue its successful work and 10TACLE STUDIOS AG are free to newly position their company strategically as planned”, declares Markus Malti, CEO of TGC.

Carsten Strehse, CEO and development director of TGC, states: “All parties agree that the orientation of our business as a publisher with internal and external development competencies as vital assets does not fit into the new concept of the 10TACLE group. The reverse transaction is the logical consequence of this realization. Now we will expand our proprietary development capacities and invest in the development sector on a large scale.”

TGC is a Berlin-based internationally acting developer and marketer of computer and video games for the PC and all current game consoles. The firm is being managed by Markus Malti and Carsten Strehse. TGC was founded at the beginning of 2006 as a merger of 15 year old German development studio Silver Style and a group of experienced representatives of the computer games industry headed by co-founder Markus Malti. Today TGC employs a staff of over 40.

With Silver Style Entertainment TGC maintains a renowned proprietary development unit. Silver Style Entertainment has enjoyed international success with games such as “Soldiers of Anarchy”, “The Fall – Last Days of Gaia” and “Simon the Sorcerer – Chaos Happens”. “Simon the Sorcerer – Chaos Happens” has recently been awarded the German Developer Award 2007 in the category “Best German Children’s Game”. TGC also provides games based on popular licences like the well-known German casting show “Germany’s Next Topmodel” or “Wetten, dass..?”, the most successful television show in Europe, the DEL (German Ice Hockey League) or the HBL (German National Handball League), proving TGC´s commitment to high-quality productions.

TGC Announces Official DVDi Game of „Germany’s Next Topmodel“

Berlin, 27th March 2008. The idea is simple and brilliant: Those who are mesmerized by the TV show around aspiring young beauties will also love to play the show on TV. In May, close to the finale of „Germany’s Next Topmodel“, TGC lets „Germany’s Next Topmodel“, a DVDi title licensed from MM MerchandisingMedia, the licensing company of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, hit the catwalk. In the interactive games show true fans of the young model talents will find out how familiar they really are with the world of mannequins. 3.72 millions of TV viewers watched the kickoff of the current season – therefore the silver disk will almost certainly prove a success.
Passionate viewers of „Germany’s Next Topmodel“, a series based on „America’s Next Top Model“ by Tyra Banks, switch on their DVD players, grip their remote controls and get catapulted from the couch to the catwalk straightaway. Just as colourful as fashion trends are the game options: fans tackle four different challenges. They prove their detailed knowledge of the TV shows and candidates as well as their proficiency concerning the model cosmos as a whole. The program outrightly detects knowledge and memory gaps, but those who find all the right answers and show that they are real insiders, crack the code in the end and will be treated with the best outtakes from the current season of „Germany’s Next Topmodel“.
„The attractive license, a mainstream platform and the wonderful straightforward party-proven game concept take the audience by storm. We are very glad that MM MerchandisingMedia has granted us the license for this exclusive DVDi game“, says Christian Sauerteig, TGC’s marketing manager.
Sabine Eckhardt, managing director at MM MerchandisingMedia: „With the interactive DVD we offer the viewers of the ProSieben TV show some attractive added value. The fans will be able to virtually become part of the model world in their own living-rooms and master the same challenges as the candidates in the show.“

Last weekend the Games Convention 2007 in Leipzig ended with record attendance and media coverage.
The Games Company verstärkt PR-Abteilung
